From service, to sanctuary.
Justin LaPree came home from the Marines carrying injuries that no VA waiting room could touch. The kind that don't show on a scan. Years later, as a decorated Austin firefighter, he watched colleagues carry the same invisible weight and recognized it as something systemic. Conventional medicine offered management, not healing. Then came his first entheogenic experience, and everything changed. "The thing that stuck with me," Justin has said, "was that I did not want to die anymore." That was the beginning — not just of his own healing, but of a mission to make that same doorway available to every veteran, first responder, and civilian who needed it.
The Illuminating Co. was founded on that conviction. Two programs took shape: Illuminating Heroes, a fully funded sanctuary for veterans, first responders, and their families, and Illuminating Souls, a membership-based path for civilians seeking growth, integration, and spiritual expansion. Both grounded in the same truth: that healing is not a luxury. It is a right. And that when civilians invest in their own transformation through Illuminating Souls, they directly offset the cost of care for the heroes who can't afford it.
Today, retreats are held at a private sanctuary in the Texas Hill Country, where world-class clinicians, decorated veterans, and trained guides hold space for experiences that change lives. The approach combines entheogenic modalities with thorough preparation and integration, therapy, breathwork, sound healing, and psycho-spiritual support, grounded in academic research and carried out with rigorous clinical oversight. This is not a company. It is a calling.
